Major League - 4/12/03: Moppert Brothers 7, Peterson 3. The rain stopped, and the sun started to shine. The players took off their hats, and pledge the little league anthem. The umpire yelled out “play ball”, and the Media Little league 2003 season was finally underway. Moppert Brothers were the visiting team and got things going quickly with 2 runs in the first with Phil Rabena walking, then stealing 2nd, Brandon Davis with a long double over the left fielder-RBI- scoring Alex Geosits who got on a fielders choice, and Andrew Feuerstein ripping a double down the third base line-RBI. Jamie Goldsmith, the starting pitcher for Peterson, pitched very well and held Moppert Brothers in the 2nd & 3rd with no runs and a total of 5 strikeouts in 3 innings. Dan Nieves, had a great start for Moppert Brothers, bringing a hot fastball and demonstrating good control. Pitched- 4 innings, with 10 strikeouts, 0 runs, & 6 walks. Peterson came back strong in the 5th with 3 runs, on hits by Brian Mehalick, William Horrocks, Jamie Goldsmith (clutch hit with 2 outs), & Ryan Luffey. Moppert Brothers 2nd pitcher- Phil Rabena, got a clutch strikeout for the 3rd out to get out of the 5th with game tied at 3. Peterson 2nd Pitcher Ryan Luffey, held Moppert to no runs in the 4th (after hits by Alex Geosits & Taylor McManus), no runs in the 5th with 2 K’s, and no runs in the 6th, with help from Ben Hartzell, who stole a hit from Brandon Davis’s line shot to center. Moppert Brothers Pitcher Phil Rabena, held Peterson to no runs it the bottom of the 6th, with a walk, a clutch strikeout, and a hot double play by 2nd baseman Gregg Allison, who stabbed a line drive catch and a heads play tagging 2nd base, doubling up the runner on second who was heading to third. It’s off to extra innings! Moppert Brothers bats got going again in the top of the 7th, with 4 runs on clutch hits by Forrest ( Forrie) Miller- then stole 2nd, Ryan Donovan- RBI, Andrew Remy, Alex Geosits- RBI, Phil Rabena-RBI, and Brandon Davis- RBI. Brad Wenzel, Peterson’s catcher, made a great putout at home on Ryan Donovan’s scoring attempt saving another runner. Moppert Brothers pitcher- Phil Rabena headed to the mound in the bottom of the 7th with a 7-3 lead and started with a clutch strikeout, walk the 2nd batter, got a second out on ground ball out. The next 2 batters (Bobby Panaccio & Ryan Luffey for Peterson) battled to get on base with walks, however Phil came back strong with a strikeout for the 3rd out, giving Moppert Brothers their first win of the season. It was a total team effort from Moppert Brothers.
