Game Summary - April 12,2003 Baker Printing 4, Hagans 0 The sun finally shone and the field dried out in time for this afternoon game as both teams opened up their respective seasons. Baker's Anthony Ricco and Hagan's Matt Atkinson hooked up in what would be a great game. Jeremiah Green led off with a screaming double in the gap for the Baker boys. Ricco delivered a single up the middle to score Green and give Baker a 1-0 lead. The game would remain with that score up until the fifth inning when Baker finally got some insurance. "Big Jon" Burns led off with a double to center. JJ Andrews then walked. Burns would eventually come around to score after some nifty baserunning. After stealing third, he scored on a passed ball. Eric Papamarcos delivered a double to then score Andrews. Baker would score again in the sixth as Ron "Vinegar" Mizell and Ryan Martin hit back to back singles and Burns came through again with another RBI as he brought Mizell home with a ground ball to the second baseman, scoring Baker's fourth run. Mike Enterlin was solid for the Baker boys behind the plate. The game ended in dramatic fashion with Enterlin making a heads-up play on an attempt by Matt Atkinson to steal home. Anthony Ricco fired the ball and the catcher held on to make the put-out. But the big story of the day was pitching. Ricco went the distance, pitching six outstanding innings and getting the shutout against a tough Hagan's team. He yielded just one hit (a single by leadoff hitter Dan McCarthy in the sixth inning). He struck out fourteen while yielding two walks. Matt Atkinson, making his major league debut, was outstanding as well. He also went six innings, striking out eight and walking only three.
