Majors 4/15/03: Campbells Boathouse 3, Moppert Brothers 2 The Campbells Boathouse crew weighed anchor on their 2003 season with a closely and well played game against Moppert Brothers. On a perfect low 70's night in April, both teams rolled out pitching and defense (there was only 1 error in the game) and it wasn't over until the final out. Campbells started with Alex "Soup" Butt on the mound and he gave them 3 hitless innings (3 K's, 2 BB's) and faced the minimum 9 batters as SS Ryan Myers turned a "touch the bag, throw to 1st" double-play in the 1st and catcher Sarge Quintans erased Moppert's Nick Hetland stealing in the 2nd. Moppert starter Phil Rabena was equally sharp (5 inn. pitched, 2ER, 4H, 4K's) and got through the 1st, striking out Campbell's 3 and 4 hole hitters with a runner in scoring position. Campbell's Boathouse eeked out 2 runs in the 2nd on Alex Butt's single, an error and a couple walks. They added another in the 3rd on singles by Sarge Quintans and Soup Butt, but Phil Rabena shut them down by making an unassisted tag at the plate on a Stephan Tull bunt, then getting a foul pop and a strikeout to strand 2 Campbells runners. Patrick "Hooch" Smith came on to pitch for Campbells in the 4th and the "never say die" Moopert team put 2 runs on the board in the 5th on an Andrew Feuerstein single, a Taylor McManus walk and a 2 run single to right from Forrest Miller (the best shot of the game). This set the stage for a nail biting 6th inning when Alex Geosits 1 out walk put the tying run on 1st but Hooch Smith bore down and retired Moppert's "meat of the order" with a K and a ground out. This sharply and well played game by both teams was over at 7:15. 1 2 3 4 5 6 R H E Moppert 0 0 0 0 2 0 2 3 1 Campbells 0 2 1 0 0 x 3 4 0
