Majors - April 27, 2003 Carman Insurance 13, Peterson & Peterson 3 Peterson and Peterson brought their 3-1 record, and high aspirations, to the ballfield against Carman Corp. Carman was the home team, and Kevin Gillen pitched. After a game-opening strikeout, the usually steady Gillen struggled, walking Weathers, Gamber, and then Goldsmith, a trifecta to load the bases. Brad Wenzel singled, and Ben Hartzell also reached, to make the score 2-0, Peterson. Gillen regained his composure, and K'd the last two batters, as Peterson left the bases loaded. Jamie Goldsmith started for Peterson in the bottom of the first. Gillen singled, and advanced to second on a sweeet sacrifice bunt by Marc McGough. Then Mike Still drove a letter-high fastball over the leftcenterfield fence, and just like that, the score was tied, 2-2. Matt Snow followed with a triple, and Jerry Boyer's sac-fly to center scored Carman's catcher, to make it 3-2, Carman. Goldsmith retired Newby on a pop up to left to end the inning. Gillen faced the minimum in the 2nd, and then Goldsmith retook the mound. Scott Kotkamp started with a single, then Gillen walked, McGough forced Kotkamp at 3rd, Still walked to load the bases, then Matt Snow, Troy Clifton, and Andrew Snow all singled. Boyer once again reached, and when the inning was over, Carman has sent 13 to the plate, and scored 7, to make the score 10-2. Peterson got one back in the top of the 3rd, as Goldsmith and Wenzel both got on via errors, and Goldsmith eventually scored. 10-3. Carman got 2 more in the home 3rd, as 11-year-old Andrew Snow hit his first Major League round-tripper to deep rightcenter, with Clifton aboard. 12-3. Troy Clifton relieved Gillen in the 4th, and registered 2 K's, then a walk, and then a final K, to retire the side. Ben Hartzell took the mound to relieve Ryan Luffey, who pitched the 3rd. Gillen walked, Hobson struck out, and then John Tierney had the game winner for Carman, with a hard-lined triple down the right field line, to plate Gillen, for a final score of 13-3. 1 2 3 4 R H E Peterson 2 0 1 0 3 1 2 Carman 3 7 2 1 13 10 2
