Majors: 4/30/03 Carman 10, Baker 3 Carman Corp hosted Baker Print, in a matchup of the two front-running teams in Media Little League, 2003 edition. Carman entered the contest 5-0, and Baker 4-1, with their lone loss to Carman. A win by Baker would tie up the standings, and leave both teams at 5-1. Both teams had their ace pitchers ready to go the distance, so the stage was set. Top of the first, Kevin Gillen pitching for Carman. J Green continued his torrid batting, hitting a double to left, from the leadoff position. After Gillen got the next two batters on K's, Nick Vendetta reached on an E-6, scoring Green. Enterlin also got on via Catcher's interference, and then Gillen got the final out on a third strikeout. Baker 1, Carman 0. Bottom of the first, Anthony Ricco took the mound for Baker, and retired Gillen on a 1-3 ground ball. Then McGough doubled, Still singled, Matt Snow singled, and Troy Clifton hit into a fielder's choice to score Carman's first run. Andrew Snow followed with another clean single, plating 2 more, before a backwards-K ended the inning. Carman 3, Baker 1, like a prizefight. Top of the second, Gillen retired the side on a K, a 4-3, and a second K. Score held. Bottom of the second, RIcco gave up a leadoff walk to Avery Coleman, which, true to the rule, led to Carman's only run of the inning, as RIcco then got a "backwards K", then allowed a single to Gillen, followed by McGough's 6-4 fielder's choice, which scored the run, and then got yet another "backwards K", to end the inning. Carman 4, Baker 1. Top of the third, Gillen still pitching, and issued a walk to leadoffman Green (and guess what happened?) Anthony Ricco's single to center scored Green, Ricco advancing to second on the throw home, which was off the mark, then advancing to third on the errant throw, then scoring as the catcher's throw to third sailed wide right of the bag, past both of Carman's backups into an empty right field. Carman 4, Baker 3. Bottom of the third, Ricco retakes the mound. Matt Snow hit what appeared to be a clean double, which was instead run down by Jeering Green, from his centerfield position, for the first out. Clifton followed with a double, A Snow reached on an E-6, followed by a K, then another error allowed the runs to score. Carman 6, Baker 3. Top of the fourth, Gillen pitching, and gets a 1-2-3 inning. Bottom of the fourth, Eric Papamarcos relieves Ricco. Papamarcos got Carman's first batter on a K, then yielded a double to McGough, who stole third, a single to Still, which scored a run, and a triple to M Snow, which scored another, before getting another K, and then singles back-to-back by A Snow and Jerry Boyer, before getting out of the inning on yet another "backwards K." Carman 9, Baker 3. Top of the fifth, Gillen got a 5-3, then a K, then issued a walk to Papamarcos, and ended the inning with another K. Bottom of the fifth, Papamarcos again pitching, got a quick 6-3 out, then issued a walk, which was followed by an E-6, a K, a double by M Snow, and a walk by Clifton, before a K ended the inning. Carman 10, Baker 3. Top of the sixth, Clifton relieved for Gillen, and yielded a single to Vendetta, followed by a 4-3 groundout, a K, and, finally, the third out, as Carman prevailed, 10-3. 1 2 3 4 5 6 R H E Baker 1 0 2 0 0 0 3 3 2 Carman 3 1 2 3 1 - 10 11 4
