Majors: 5/1/03 Campbells 14, Moppert 3 The Campbells Boathouse bats came alive as their sails caught a brisk breeze with a 14-3 win over Moppert Brothers. Offensively the Boatboys were led by the top of their order as Matt Giardinelli (2-4, 3B, 4 runs), Mike Caramanico (4-5, 4RBIs) and Sarge Quintans (5-5, 2B, 5RBI's) all had career days at the plate. The game started slowly as Moppert starter Dan Nieves pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the 1st with a K and and 1-3 groundout. Alex Butt took the mound for Campbells and retired Moppert in order. In the second Nieves struggled a bit walking Mark Fanelli, Patrick Schramm and Giardinelli to set the stage for singles by Caramanico and Quintans and a run scoring fielder's choice grounder from Rob Tull. In the bottom of the inning, Moppert looked to rally as Nieves rapped a double to right center and Ryan Donovan singled, but with no out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, "Soup" Butt bore down and stuck out the side. The 3rd saw Campbells put up another 3 as Stephan Tull and Fanelli walked and Patrick Schramm was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a FC force at the plate, Caramanico and Quintans again came up with big run scoring singles while Moppert minimized the damage tossing out 2 Campbells runners at the plate. In the bottom of the 3rd, Alex Butt struck out the side to finish his 3 scoreless innings with 8K's and no walks. The 4th saw Moppert reliever Phil Rabena touched for a single run when Butt singled, astutely went to 3rd on a WP that stuck in the backstop and scored on the ensuing throw to 3rd. After Brendan McElhenney singled, Moppert turned a pretty 5-4-3 doubleplay. Campbell's reliever in the 4th was Mike (6 pitches, 7 speeds, most of them legal) Caramanico and he did exactly what you need to do with a big lead ...."throw strikes!!" and he did. Moppert got 2 runs in the 4th on singles by Nieves, Rabena and a double from Brandon Davis. Campbells got a single run in the 5th on hits by Giardinelli, Quintans and Rob Tull and Caramanico shut down Moppert in the bottom of the inning. But in the sixth, Campbells added 5 runs highlighted by a Giardinelli triple and a Sarge Quintans double off the wall. Caramanico then finished the game for Campbells allowing a single run on singles by Ryan Donovan and Phil Rabena. Mikey C.'s line for his 3 innings - 1K, 3runs and "NO WALKS".
