Majors - 5/3/03 Baker Printing 14 - Peterson and Peterson 10 On a great afternoon for baseball, visiting Peterson squared off with Baker Printing. Eric Papamarcos started for the Baker boys opposed by Ben Hartzell for the visitors. In the top of the first, lead-off batter Brian Mehalick got on with a walk and after stealing a base, CJ Gamber then delivered an RBI single. Peterson took the early lead 1-0. In the home half of the first, Eric Papamarcos laid down a perfect bunt for a single. Consecutive singles by Nick Vendetta, Mike Enterlin, Jon Burns and Ron "Vinegar" Mizell led to four runs for the Baker boys. Baker was now up, 4-1. Peterson would get on the board again in their second with Ben Hartzell singling and after a stolen base, he would score on an RBI single by Matt Gorbey. Baker would add to their lead in the second with Erich Schwabe drawing a walk and then coming around to score on an Anthony Ricco double in the right center gap. Meanwhile, Papamarcos was pitching very well. He was victimized by a series of errors in the third inning and Peterson, as a result, put 2 more runs on the board. The score was now 5-4 Baker. After Hartzell pitched two solid innings, Peterson brought Stephen Weathers in to pitch. The Baker boys put 2 more runs on the board after a hit-batsman and consecutive singles by Burns and Mizell. Ron Mizell came on to pitch the fourth for Baker. Ron, in his major league debut, pitched well and got two outs but Peterson pushed three runs across. Jeremiah Green came on to get the last out on a gutsy strikeout. The score was now deadlocked at 7-7. Weathers continued to pitch well with a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth. Green kept Baker in the game with a scoreless fifth. The game would be decided in the Baker fifth. Jamie Goldsmith came on to pitch for Peterson. Mike Enterlin of Baker got on with a walk after working the count to 3-2. "Big Jon" Burns then came through once again with a single. Subsequent walks to Mizell, Phil Antonello, and Erich Schwabe brought in two more runs. Peterson then went to their bullpen and brought in Ryan Luffey, who struck out Jeremiah Green. Eric Papamarcos then drew a walk, which brought in another run. The stage was set for some MLL drama as Anthony Ricco stepped up and blasted a 1-0 fastball over the left centerfield fence for a grand slam home run. Baker was now up 14-7. "J-Rock" came on to close it out in the sixth but not before those gutsy Peterson boys put 3 more on the board. The final score was Baker 14 - Peterson 10.
