Majors: 5/13/03 Carman 10, Moppert 3 Carman played Moppert, and - for the first time in their last 4 games, all wins - Carman was the home team. Moppert batted first, as Carman's Mike Still took the mound. After a quick K of the leadoff batter, Nick Hetland drew a gutsy walk. Dan Nieves flew out to first, and then Still got another K, to end the inning. Dan Nieves hurled for Moppert, and avoided major damage in the first, as once again the top of Carman's order struggled with the strike zone, as Nieves was awarded 2 "backwards K's", sandwiched around McGough's single. Two outs seems to mean nothing to Carman's lineup, as Matt Snow then singled, Andrew Snow doubled, then Boyer and Kotkamp both walked, to score 2, before Nieves got yet another K (his third of the inning) to end it. Carman 2, Moppert 0. Top of the 2nd, Still once again pitching, as Forrest Miller hit sharply to second base, where McGough fielded cleanly and threw to first, only to see the ball unexpectedly pop out of the firstbaseman's mitt, E3. Next batter, K. Then Alex Geosits hit a come-backer to the mound, which twice eluded the grasp of Still, for an E1, runners on first and second. Still calmy ended the inning by striking out the next two batters. Carman's steady attack continued in the bottom of the 2nd, as Gillen singled, McGough walked, Matt Snow singled, Andrew Snow hit into a run-scoring fielder's choice, Boyer singled, Kotkamp "took one for the team", in all scoring another 3 runs, before Nieves settled in, K-ing the last 2 batters. Once again, Nieves, had rung up 3 K's in a single inning, 6 total for the game. Mike Still took the mound again in the 3rd, and went 1-2-3 K's with the 1-2-3 batters in Moppert's lineup. In the third, Carman steadily added to their lead, as Gillen, McGough, and Still all reached by error. Matt Snow singled, before Nieves retired the side. Carman 8, Moppert 0. Kevin Gillen relieved Still to start the 4th, as Andrew Feurestein got on via an E4. Gillen next got a K, then Brandon Davis' "looks like it's going to be a hard hit single to the gap" was snared by Newby, who, starting from a laid-out position, willed himself to his knees, and fired a strike to first, which settled easily into the firstbaseman's mitt, to get the second out of the inning. Gillen then got the 3rd out on a K. In the bottom of the 4th, Ryan Donovan relieved Nieves, and appeared to be headed to calmer waters, as he quickly got the first 2 outs on a 4-3 and a K. Then Colin Newby drew a walk, Gillen singled, and McGough reached by error, and Carman accumulated their 9th and 10th runs, to end the game in 4 innings, by a final score of 10-0. For Carman, Still went 3, fanning 8, allowing no hits and no runs, and Gillen relieved for 1, with no hits, 2 K's and 0 runs. For Moppert, Nieves went 3, fanning 7. 1 2 3 4 R H E Moppert 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 Carman 2 3 3 3 10 8 3
