Majors: 5/14/03 Campbells 11, Hagans 2 The "Boys from the Boathouse" kept their resurgent play going as they beat Hagans Funeral Home 11-2 in a game much closer than the score. Campbells "Soup" Butt pitched 4 scoreless innings (6K's, 2BB's) in a pitching duel against Hagans Will Torrence until a big 5th inning for Campbells put the game away. In the 1st Hagans stranded Dan McCarthy who had blooped a double to left and Campbells was scoreless as they had two runners thrown out at the plate "again". As the Boathouse seems to do this twice a game on average, Skipper Bob "honest, I didn't send him" Tull was seen mumbling under his breath as he trekked to the dugout at inning's end. In the 2nd, Hagans again stranded 2 runners (Torrence reached on a walk and Adam Panichi on an E-4) and "Soup" had a couple K's. In the bottom of the inning, Campbells got two as Butt reacehed base on an error, advanced all the way around to score on PB/WPs and "RyMy" Myers walked and did the same. Brendan McElhenney singled but was stranded. The 3rd inning saw more of the same for Hagans as McCarthy walked and Chris McCusker doubled with two out but both were stranded as Butt got a K to pitch out of yet another jam. Will Torrence matched the scoreless inning as he issued walks to Rob Tull and Butt and got a K to hold Campbells scoreless. The 4th inning was scoreless as well for both teams as runners were again stranded and the stage was set for a dramatic 5th with Campbells leading 2-0. Patrick "Hooch" Smith came on in the 5th for Campbells and Hagans tied the game with 2 runs keyed by Dan McCarthy's bunt single, and two errors by Campbells fielders. Then Campbells hoisted their main sails and caught a stiff breeze. Here's the sequence: Mike Caramanico walked, Sarge Quintans reached on an error, Rob Tull and Butt walked, then Stephan Tull laid down a beautiful bunt that followed the line like it was on a track to RBI in one. "RyMy" Myers singled, Patrick Schramm walked and finally the 1st out was made. Then "Hooch" Smith hoisted a fly to center that was dropped, Caramanico was HBP, Quintans FC'ed and the blow it open 3 run double from Rob Tull (still playing injured with a splinted thumb) was the icing on the cake. When the smoke cleared, 9 runs had come across. Smith then pitched a scoreless 6th and Campbells Boathouse had their 5th win in the last 6 games.
