Major Playoffs: 6/8/03 Campbells 4, Moppert 1 The 2003 playoffs got underway as Cambells Boathouse faced off against Moppert Brothers in a tight, well pitched, well fielded, low scoring game. Campbells prevailed 4-1 behind the pitching of Alex "Soup" Butt (3IP, 5K's, 0BB's) and Patrick "Hooch" Smith (3IP, 4K's, 2BB's) as they allowed just 3 hits and 1 unearned run. Moppert stayed close behind great pitching from Dan Nieves (5IP, 5K's, 4BB's) and Phil Rabena's fielding at shortstop (5 assists) but couldn't capitalize on Campbell's stingy defense. Here's how the runs were scored: In the first, Campbell's got one as "RyMy" Myers (still playing with a sore right hand smashed last week) beat out a bunt single and got to third on a WP and a stolen base. He then scored on a Mike Caramanico RBI ground ou to short. In the 4th, Moppert got their sole run as Nieves reached on an error and Nick Hetland's curving line drive to right was dropped. Smith then walked Andrew Feuerstein and Greg Allison to plate a run before getting out of the inning with 2 K's with the bases loaded. .. gutsy pitching!!! Campbells got their other 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th as Matt Giardinelli singled, Mark Fanelli walked and Patrick Schramm beat out an infield hit to score Giardinelli. Ryan Myers got a RBI on a grounder driving in Fanelli and Schramm scored on a ball to the backstop. An Honorable Mention goes to Kyle "K-Dog" Maylish who was called up to play for Moppert (a nine yr. old from National) as he pulled a single to left and made a nice catch of a liner to left (robbing Stephan "Cheesburger" Tull). 1 2 3 4 5 6 R H E Moppert 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 3 0 Campbells 1 0 0 3 0 - 4 6 2
