National: 4/29/03 Gardner Fox Red 7, Media Police Rangers 7 In an early season battle of two undefeated teams, five innings were not enough to decide a winner. The epic battle started with the Reds jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning. Eric McGough with complete control of his pitches was holding the Rangers down until Andrew Butkus came up with a runner on first. The Rangers' excellent catcher caught up to a hanging curve and promptly smashed it to deep center field. The hit drove in one run and had the potential for more. However, the quick reflexes of center fielder, Kyle Maylish, allowed him to knock down Butkus' potential homerun holding him to a double. The Rangers did not produce anymore offense over the next two innings with McGough going 3 strong with 9 Ks and only 1 run scored. The Reds' offense on the otherhand, began to heat up. The Reds posted 3 runs in the first inning. Only a fantastic team defensive play kept them from scoring more. Greg Snow launched the ball to deep left field. The Reds coaches smelled homerun, however, the Rangers' left fielder quickly caught up to the ball and with a perfect throw hit relay man, Ian McLarney, who gunned the ball home to catcher, Andrew Butkus, who put a perfect tag down to a erase Snow at home. The Reds Clay McDermott, lead off the second inning with a single to left. Greg Snow eventually drove Clay in with a hot shot of his own, picking up an RBI and making it 4-1 after two innings. The game stayed at 4-1 until the 4th inning. The Reds opened up the 4th inning with Kyle Maylish reaching base after being hit by a pitch. Greg Snow then picked up his 3rd of 5 RBIs of the game driving Kyle in with another stinging shot towards right center. After a walk to Eric McGough, Tim Divis collected his second hit of the game, driving in 2 more runs. Divis had a terrific game at the plate going 2-4 with a double and picking up 3 RBIs. The Reds had a 7-1 lead going into the bottom of the 4th. The Rangers team then scrambled to pick up 6 runs of their own making the score 7-7 after 4 innings. The Reds were unable to score any more runs in the 5th inning due to the pitching of Ian McLarney. Kyle Maylish came in for the Reds and ended any further scoring threat from the Rangers pitching well and collecting 2 Ks. Also playing well for the Reds and Rangers were Grant Jamgochian of the Reds going 2-2 with 2 RBIs and Keith Kirk of the Rangers pitching 2 strong innings which included 5 Ks.
