National: 5/13/03 Granite Run Pontiac 10, Taylor Rental 6 It was a chilly evening but the pitching was hot. The Marlins were led by Darren Lucca who pitched 3 innings, striking out 9 batters and giving up only 3 runs. Tim Amans pitched 3 scoreless innings and struck out 7 batters. The Athletics took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 4th inning when the Marlins' bats finally came alive to score 4 runs. The Athletics came right back to score 3 runs in the top of the 5th to take a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the 5th. The Marlins then exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Brian Vendetta pitched a scoreless 6th inning to seal the victory for the Marlins. In all, Brian pitched 3 innings, striking out 7 batters and giving up only 3 runs. Billy Ankrum led the Marlins offense going 3-3 with a 2 run homerun in the 5th inning. Daniel Buttery went 2-3. Andy Kaiden went 2-3. Brian Vendetta went 2-3 and Chris Barbee went 2-3. Eric Poynton led the Athletics offensively going 3-3 at the plate. Zander Brown stopped an early rally by the Marlins catching a deep fly ball to center field hit by John Owens. Both teams played very well in a very exciting game.
