National: May 18, 2003 GR Pontiac 17, Hillyard 16 The Marlins were really seeing the ball well. The offense was led by Darren Lucca 4-4, Brian Vendetta 3-3 and Jacob Goldstein 2-3. The Marlins jumped out to a 10-0 but the Royals never quit. The Royal struck for 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd and 6 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to cut the deficit to 13-10 but the Marlins scored another 4 runs in the 4th to hold on for the win. Luke Antonella, Alexis Corner, Hunter Tierney and Joe Sincavage all went 2-3 from the plate. The Marlins got strong starting pitching from Andy Kaiden. Billy Ankrum filled in admirably in an emergency relief pitching role. The Marlins also got a strong defensive effort from John Owens who caught a deep fly to center from Joe Sincavage in the 3rd inning saving a home run. Both teams played very well in hard fought game.
