AL Game 4
Meenan 6
Axis 4
The Meenan Oilers and Axis
Financial squared off for their season opener on a beautiful April evening. It
was the first time these players had ever stepped foot onto the new Fred Dotts
Field.
Both teams played a solid game with Meenan coming out on top 6-4.
Nick Boleto provided the Oilers with an early cushion, as he shut out Axis for
three innings. Jake Day came in for Meenan to finish the game with 2 gutsy
innings. Boleto, helped his own cause with a solid double to left and another
hard hit single that drove in runs. Meenan also made use of hits by Frank
Gentile, Kris Kramer and Ian Campbell.
Sean Heidig, who pitched well for Axis, also played the other end of the battery
and put out 2 runners at the plate. Axis was getting hot and had a chance to tie
or win the game in the fifth. That is when Day pitched out of some heat with a
clutch strikeout to win the game.
