The Orioles pitching started out strong by striking out the first two batters.
William Manganiello, picking up from last game, drove a 2-strike pitch to the
wall for a triple. Tommy Higgins followed up with a single to drive in
Manganiello. In the bottom of the first, the Orioles hit the ball hard, causing
two errors and got four runs to take the lead 4-1.
In the top of the second, Orioles pitching again limited the potent Marlins
offense to only one run. Brian Snow nailed the first of three triples in the
game and scored on Matt Divis’ sharp grounder to center.
From the second inning on, Marlins pitchers Michael Solomon, Matt Divis, and
Timmy Quinn shut the Orioles down, surrendering only one run for therest of the
game. John Flynn led of the third with a deep shot to right center for a triple
and scored on a single from Jake Branyan. In the bottom half of the third, the
Marlins came alive scoring the first six batters on five hits, including Brian
Snow’s bases clearing triple, his second of the game.
In the 4th, Hugh Taussig-Lux and Jack Misko reached home on Tommy Higgins double
to left center.
In the 5th, catcher Tommy Higgins made a perfect pick off throw to Timmy Quinn
at first to get a runner and stop a rally by the Orioles.
In the 6th, Brian Snow capped the final rally with a 2-run triple, ending with
five RBIs for the day. In the bottom of the inning, William Manganiello shut
down the Orioles potent top of the batting order with two strikeouts and a
grounder to first to end the game.
