ML Game 40
Hagan’s Funeral Home 9
Campbell’s Boathouse Resturant 2
A combination of strong pitching, timely hitting, and crisp fielding (what a
concept!) powered Hagan’s to a 9-2 win over Campbell’s Boat House. The dominant
pitching of Hunter Tierney (3 IP, 0 H, 6 K) held Campbell’s offense in check
early, allowing just 2 third-inning runs. Meanwhile, Hagan’s offense struck
quickly, scoring 3 in the bottom of the first inning, followed by 2 in the
second and 3 more in the third. With Hagan’s leading 8-2 after three innings,
the fine pitching of Campbell’s Shane Williams and Hagan’s John Owens took
control of the game. Williams struck out 5 over the final two innings while
allowing a single run and just two hits. Owens struck out 5 in the last three
innings, allowing no runs and two hits.
For the first time this season, Hagan’s played error-free, lockdown defense
highlighted by Brian Gross’s sliding catch in shallow center that resulted in an
8-3 double play. Hagan’s offense was powered by Gross (3 for 3--BB, 2S, D) and
Andy Kaiden (2 for 3--S, D). Matt Rushton (1 for 2—BB, D) and Williams (1 for
2—BB, S) led the Campbell’s offense.
