Gardner/Fox (GF) was able to capture it’s 1st win of the season in a hard fought battle vs Carman Corp (CC). Carman again started Josh Bannister, who had shutout Gardner/Fox in their first meeting. This game, Gardner/Fox jumped out quick with four runs in the 1st lead by Kevin McGarvey’s double (3-4, 2B 2-singles, rbi) and Sean Heidig’s single (2-3, 2-singles, rbi). Carman answered with 1 run in the 1st behind Bannister’s single (2-3 2-singles, 1-run, 2-rbi).
Carman chipped away at GF’s 5-1 lead in the 3rd and 4th lead by clutch hitting from Kevin McGowen’s double in the 3rd (2-4, 2B, single, rbi) to tie the score after 4 innings.
GF started the 5th answering the bell and putting 2 across, lead by Philip Kotcamp’s single (1-3, single, 2-runs) and Brett Knoble’s single (2-4, 2-singles, run). But Carman keep up the fight scoring 2 runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame behind a clutch lead off double from AJ Lambardozzi (1-4, double) and Alex McLaughlin’s single (1-1, single), Danny Furman (1-3, single, run) delivered the clutch single to tie the game and position Carman for what would be a thrilling end. GF started the 6th with the top of their order and Eric McGough (2-4, 2B, single, run), Eric roped a single to right center and Kevin McGarvey delivered the game winning hit when he drilled a shot into the right center, putting GF up 8-7.
Eric McGough came in the bottom of the 6 to close the came. Winning pitcher was Sean Heidig who through 3 1/3 strong innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits and 4 strikeouts. Game ball was given to Tim Buckley (2-3, 2-singles) for both his bat and glove.
