ML Game 33
Campbell’s Boathouse 7
Carman Insurance 5
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in what could arguable claim to be one of the
most exciting matches of the season, Campbell’s Boathouse beat Carman’s
Insurance 7-5 in an extra inning thriller. Eric Poynton led the charge for the
Boathousers pitching 3 masterful scoreless innings and going 4-4 with a triple,
double and 2 singles.
Campbell’s held a 2-0 lead into the top of the 5th when 3 back-to-back homeruns
were launched by Dan Furman, Tim Aman and Kevin Mohollen. Veteran Media Little
League observers scratched their heads pondering if such an event had ever
occurred. Disheartened but not willing to yield, the Boaters banged their way
back into the game with 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th behind the clutch
hitting of Eric Poynton, Christian Miller and Brian Treston (double) to lock it
up at 5 runs a piece.
After 6 complete innings the game was still tied. Shane Williams took control in
the top of the 7th striking out 2 and getting the final batter to ground out to
him. In the bottom of the 7th Eric Poynton continued with his incredible batting
run leading off with a single. Next up was Dan Grandieri who launched a homerun
shot that cleared the center-right field fence giving him a walkoff victory.
