On Friday night, Baker Printing received excellent pitching, played
solid defense, and received timely hitting to defeat Campbells by a 7-2
score to take sole possession of first place as the regular season winds
down. Alex Burman pitched 4 very efficient innings striking out 6
batters, zero walks, 2 hits, and only giving up 2 runs. Alex was able
to impressively retire the first 10 batters he faced before allowing a
base runner in the top of the 4th inning. Kyle Virbitsky pitched the
final two innings to pick up the save by allowing no hits and 4 strike
outs.
Vinnie Carter held the Baker bats in check for almost 4 & 2/3 innings
giving up just 2 hits, walking 4, 1 hit batter, giving up 1 earned run
and striking out 11 batters. Alex Burman was able to connect for a
double on Vinnie's final pitch with 2 outs in the 5th. Jake Glavin then
stepped to the plate and delivered a 2 run HR to right center to give
Baker a 3-2 lead in the top of the 5th. In the top of the 6th, Alex
Burman delivered 2 out single driving in 2 runs to bring Jake Glavin to
the plate again. This time, Jake hit what may have been one of the
longest HR's in MLL history directly over the right field foul pole to
give Baker a 7-2 advantage.
Peter Spiotta drove in both runs for Campbells with a bases loaded
single in the 4th inning.
