Baker and Carman played each other for the 3rd time in the past 10 days this one
took 3 hours and 9 innings to complete! Ryan Duplicki worked out of a based
loaded 1st inning jam to only allow 1 run. Carman managed to score a run in the
2nd and a go ahead run in the 3rd inning. Duplicki pitched great all the way to
the middle of the 5th inning. He retired 10 straight Baker hitters until Justin
Ross hit a line drive single with 1 out in the 5th. Two batters later, Kyle
Virbitsky drove in 2 runs with a double to right field. Alex Burman then hit a 2
run HR to deep right field that hit the top of the foul pole. Baker had a 6-2
lead heading into the bottom of the 6th and had Carman down to its last out when
Carman mounted a fierce comeback with singles by Patrick O’Kane and Devon Turner
along with a few walks and the score was tied at 6 at the end of regulation
play.
Superb pitching by Manny Ruffin and Patrick O’Kane in the 7th and 8th innings
held each other scoreless. Ruffin worked himself out of a bases loaded 8th
inning jam. Vincent Pace drew a timely 1 out walk then with 2 outs Kyle
Virbitsky smashed a 2 run HR to deep right center field. Baker tacked on one
additional run to take a 9-6 lead into he bottom of the 9th. Vince Sposato
crushed a leadoff solo HR to left center field but then Ruffin settled in to
retire the side and secure a 9-7 victory for Baker.
