ML Game 51
Baker Printing 7
Moppert Brothers 6
Baker and Moppert came into the game tied for 1st place with 11-4 records. The
final regular season game would decide the regular season champion. Kyle
Virbitsky took the mound for Baker and went 3 innings (50 pitches, 6 K's, 1BB, 2
hits, 1 run). In the bottom of the 1st, Baker got on the board with sacrifice
fly by JT Osher that scored a run. After a base hit by Manny Ruffin, Caleb
Mahalik stepped up and smacked a 2 run home run to deep left field to give Baker
a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the 3rd inning, Michael Chang crushed a Kyle Virbitsky fastball
over the left center field fence to make the score 3-1. Chang took over as
pitcher in the 2nd inning and held Baker scoreless for 3 innings, striking out 5
batters and allowing just 1 hit. Alex Burman pitched a scoreless 4th and 5
inning for Baker striking out 3 batters.
Moppert entered the 6th inning down 3-1. They loaded the bases on hits by Justin
Heidig, Howie Viguers, and Justin Potts. A single by Ryan Stocku scored 1 run to
make it 3-2. JT Osher retired the next 2 batters to bring up Ryan Colella with
the bases still loaded. Ryan hit the 1st pitch over the left field fence for a
grand slam and 6-3 lead!
With their backs to the wall, Chase Davis led off the bottom of the 6th with a
single to center field. Justin Ross was then hit by a pitch. One out later, Kyle
Virbitsky stepped up and drove in 2 runs with an RBI single. With the regular
season title on the line, Alex Burman stepped up to the plate and hit a walk-off
2 run home run to right center to give Baker Printing its 2nd consecutive
regular season championship! What a great finish to a very competitive regular
season between Moppert and Baker.
Both teams will enter the playoffs with all eligible pitchers since they kept
everyone under the regular season limit of 50 pitches (without a rest game).
Next week, its gets more challenging with the newly adopted playoff pitching
restriction of needing a game rest if you pitch over 35 pitches. It should make
for potentially high scoring playoff games...
