The Phillies defeated the Royals by the tightest of margins 4 to 3 in NL action tonight. Kevin Smith pitched a scoreless 1st inning and handed the ball over to Brian Gunn who was a workhorse throwing 5 innings only allowing 3 runs and Nick Chaves made his MLL pitching debut throwing 3 straight strikes to earn the save. Alex Lombard earned the most courageous award taking a ball in the mouth during warm-ups but played the entire game to prevent the forfeit.
