Baker
and Moppert battled each other for the 5th time this season for a spot in the
championship game. The game featured 4 home runs and 6 lead changes!
Michael Chang drew a lead off walk for Moppert and Ryan Colella blasted a 2 run
HR to right field. Baker responded quickly in the bottom of the 1st inning when
Kyle Virbitsky deposited the 1st pitch he seen over the center field fence. Hits
by Manny Ruffin, Caleb Mehalik and Justin Ross gave Baker a 3-2 lead after one.
Moppert scored 2 more runs in the top of the 2nd thanks to a few walks. The
score remained 4-3 Moppert until the bottom of the 4th inning when Chris Aman
hit a towering fly ball to deep center that bounced off the top of the fence to
stay inside the park resulting in a double. James McGowan drew a walk. Kyle
Virbitsky then blasted another home run over the center field scoreboard to put
Baker back on top. Alex Burman followed with a single, 2 stolen bases and then
scored on a wild pitch.
After a 45 minute rain delay, play was resumed at the top of the 6th inning with
Baker holding a 7-4 lead. With 2 outs and nobody on, Justin Heidig was hit by a
pitch. Michael Chang singled to right and Ryan Colella stroked his 2nd home run
of the game to tie the score at 7. Sam Freedman then had a 10 pitch at bat
resulting in a walk. Sam scored the go ahead run on a hit to the outfield by
Shea Morgan. Baker wouldn’t give up that easy. Kyle Virbitsky worked a 1 out
walk. 1 out later, Manny Ruffin delivered his 3rd base hit of the game to score
Kyle to tie the game again. Then JT Osher hit a line drive to left center to
drive home Manny Ruffin to secure a 2nd straight trip to the championship game
for Baker Printing. Moppert drops into the losers bracket to face Carman for a
chance to get back to the championship.
