On a sun-splashed Saturday afternoon, the Dodgers blanked the Diamondbacks, 5-0.

The victors scored three times in the third and twice in the fifth.

For the Diamondbacks, Kelton Brunner went 3-for-3, while Nick Corritore, Joey Cornacchia, Milan Hortua, Luke Mersch and Dylan LeBuhn each got a base hit. Just one day after piling up nine runs, the D'backs had multiple runners on base in three separate innings, but couldn't get any of them home.

As has been the case throughout the season thus far, the Diamondbacks, who were playing their third game in four days, came up with some stellar plays on defense.

In the bottom of the first, Brunner reeled in a grounder by the mound and fired it to first, where Cornacchia snagged the ball without batting an eye to get the Dodgers' leadoff hitter out. Then, with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Corritore alertly sprinted in from his spot by the pitcher's mound to pick up a ball chopped off the plate and tag home to end the frame.

The game remained scoreless until the Dodgers plated three runs in the bottom of the third. But the inning ended on a strong note for the D'backs when, with two outs and runners on first and second, Mersch made an unassisted putout at first to keep the Dodgers from adding to their total.

Then, in the bottom of the fourth, with the Dodgers looking to pad their 3-0 advantage, McDowell came up with the defensive play of the game. With the bases loaded and one out, McDowell smoothly caught a high pop-up by the mound and then darted to first to double up a Dodgers runner who left at the crack of the bat and was caught in no man's land.

The Dodgers tacked on two runs in the fifth to close out the scoring.
