AL Game 9
Sposato
Homes 15
Coldwell Banker 4
Big
Blue took one on the chin Wednesday night suffering their first loss of the
young season to Sposato, 15-4. Coldwell could not wake up their bats and failed
to record a hit on the evening. The game ended after four innings due to the
10-run rule.
Matt Halpin was effective on the mound striking out the
first batter he faced and he gave up just three runs in the first. But some
Sposato hits coupled with some spotty Coldwell defense in the second resulted in
a big inning. Jack Gill came on in relief and allowed some inherited runners
(and some of his own) to score. When the dust settled it was 13-0 Sposato after
2. Coldwell did respond with four runs in the top half of the third. Gavin
DiRita (walk), Otis Farnan (walk), Mike Phillips (HBP), and Jack Gill (walk) all
scored in the inning. The final run came on a Joe Arizin sacrifice grounder. In
the bottom half of the third, Shawn Welsh stabbed a pop up at third and Gill
recorded two strikeouts to keep the score at 13-4.
Gavin DiRita reached
base on a walk again in the top half of the fourth but was stranded. Gill stayed
on the hill and was helped early in the inning by two great plays by Mike
Phillips at second base. But Gill threw an errant throw to first when the third
batter hit a sharp come-backer to him. The next three batters doubled, singled,
and singled again and Sposato plated two more runs. Despite another nice
defensive play by Jason DiRita at shortstop, when the dust settled and the
inning ended, the Realtors were the victims of the 10-run rule.
Coldwell
will be back in action Saturday morning at 9:30 against Murtagh Bros. Plenty of
good seats are still available.
