AL Game 11
Coldwell
Banker Preferred 12
Murtagh Brothers 2
Coldwell Banker defeated
Murtaugh Brothers 12-2 Saturday morning behind another stellar pitching
performance by Avi Patel. Murtaugh got on the board first when John Coccodrilli
and Gabe Taimanglo both walked and Coccodrilli came around to score on a Michael
DiMonte RBI single. But Patel pitched out of the jam and Murtaugh left the bases
loaded. Coldwell answered back with four runs in the bottom of the first. Mike
Phillips singled and took second base on an errant throw. He then scored on an
RBI single off the bat of Jason DiRita. Patel singled and Arizin walked to load
the bases for Jack Gill who laced a liner to right center allowing DiRita and
Patel to score. Shawn Welsh and Ryan Gauffreau both walked but the inning ended
when NL call-up Theo Jauregi was robbed on a nice play by the second baseman to
end the inning.
Patel did not allow a run in the second or third. But
Coldwell had a big second inning scoring 8 runs. Phillips (walk, 2RBI single)
scored two runs in the inning. Patel (singled, scored), Arizin (singled, scored,
stole home), Gill (walked, scored, stole home), Matt Halpin (walked, scored),
Welsh (walked, scored) and Gauffreau (walked, scored) all reached base in the
inning. Coldwell did not score in the third but took a 12-1 lead into the 4th.
Bianca Penn tried to start the comeback by smoking a triple to left center to
lead off the inning. She scored on a Connor Martin RBI single. But that was the
end of the scoring and the game ended early due to the 10-run rule when SS Mike
Phillips fielded a hard grounder up the middle and stepped on second for the
force-out to end the game.
Coldwell will be back in action Monday night
when they face Coach Heff's Quotations squad for the first time this season.
