AL Game 17
Sposato
Homes 16
Coldwell Banker 10
Coldwell Banker couldn't overcome the illness and injury bug and fell to Sposato
Thursday night 16-10. Sposato jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first
when Will Cohen (single), Ben (walk), Cooper Biddle (2RBI triple), and Nate
Evert (RBI triple) all scored. Trent picked up an RBI on a sacrifice to score
Evert.
Coldwell got two singles from Sean Gorman and Avi Patel but did
not score in the first. Sposato tacked on another run when Matt led off with a
walk and, after Patel struck out the next two batters, Will Cohen hit an RBI
triple to make it 5-0.
Coldwell got one back in the bottom half of the
second. Jack Gill (walk), Joe Arizin (walk), and Matt Halpin (HBP), loaded the
bases for Shawn Welsh who had an RBI single to score Gill. But Coldwell left the
bases loaded. Sposato added another run in the third. Biddle laced a singled to
left. Evert, Aiden Naugle, and Maeve Brophy walked. Evert was thrown out at
second on a sacrifice grounder from Trent, but Biddle scored to make it 6-1
Sposato. Jason DiRita (single) and Gill (walk) each stole three bags and
Coldwell cut the lead to 6-3. But Sposato added four more in the fourth. Cohen
(walk), Ben (RBI double), Biddle (walk), and Evert (2RBI single) all scored in
the inning to stretch the Sposato lead to 10-3.
Coldwell lost two
players to injury during the game and was down to 8 players, so Gavin DiRita
stepped in to help. All he did was go 2-2 with two triples! His first came with
Tristan McLean (walk) on base. Mike Phillips then singled to score Gavin and it
was 10-5. But Sposato just kept coming. Sposato used four hits and three walks
to score 5 to make it 15-5. Coldwell needed to score to avoid the 10-run rule
and they responded with their biggest inning. Jack Gill (walk) stole third and
home to avoid the 10-run defeat. Arizin (walk), Ryan Gauffreau (walk), and
Tristan McLean (walk), all scored on a bases-clearing triple from Gavin DiRita.
DiRita was stranded and it was 15-9 heading to the 6th. Brophy crushed a triple
and scored on an RBI single from Trent. But Luke Broomall grounded to second
base and was thrown out at first. Patel then turned and threw to the plate to
Gill who tug out Trent for an inning-ending 4-3-2 double play! Gill singled and
wound up on second after an errant throw.
After stealing third, he also
stole home for the third time in the game. But that was the end of the scoring
and Sposato came away with the 16-10 victory. Big Blue will take on SAM
Construction Saturday afternoon.
