AL Game 19
Coldwell
Banker Preferred 17
S.A.M. Construction Co.
10
Coldwell Banker improved to 5-2 with a 17-10 victory over SAM
Construction on a soggy Saturday afternoon. Joe Arizin walked Ben Kalinchak to
start the game and Ben scored on a Quinn Kell double. Chase MacCauley grounded
out to second and moved Kell to third. But when Kell tried to steal home, Jack
Gill recovered an errant pitch at the backstop and beat Kell to the plate to tag
him out. Arizin walked the next two but ended the inning with a strikeout and it
was 1-0 SAM. Coldwell erupted in the bottom half. Ryan Gauffreau (walk), Mike
Phillip (HBP), and Sean Gorman (walk) loaded the bases for Avi Patel with no
outs. Patel hit a line-drive single to right to score two. Jason DiRita then
drove in two more with a single. Gill kept the hit parade going with a single to
drive in DiRita. Matt Halpin hit a double to score Gill and then stole third and
home to make it 7-1 Coldwell after one. Arizin walked one and struck out one in
the second. DiRita came on in relief and after walking the first batter he
faced, he retired the next two and stranded the runners to keep the score at
7-1. Coldwell padded their lead with two more in the bottom half. Gorman (walk)
and Patel (RBI double) both scored while DiRita picked up another RBI single to
make it 9-1 Big Blue after 2.
SAM closed the gap in the third. MacCauley
and Harry Giles reached on errors to start the inning – both scored. Jack Shafer
(walk) also scored in the inning on an Allen Kane RBI single and it was 9-4
heading to the bottom of the third. The Realtors responded with four of their
own. Arizin (single), Shawn Welsh (single), Halpin (walk), and Ander Kristiansen
(walk) all scored in the inning. Mike Phillips and Sean Gorman contributed RBI
singles in the inning and the Coldwell lead swelled to 13-4 after three. Gill
came on to pitch for Coldwell in the fourth and things….could have gone better.
Kalinchak (single), Kell (walk), MacCauley (triple with an error), Giles (walk),
Kauffman (reached on E1), and Shafer (single), all scored before Gorman came on
in relief to retire three in a row. Suddenly it was a 13-10 game. But once again
Big Blue answered the bell with four of their own to stretch the lead back to
17-10. Gill was hit on the foot with a pitch. He stole two bags on one pitch
when after stealing second he realized the pitcher wasn’t paying attention to
him so he continued safely to third. Arizin (walk), Welsh (RBI single), and
Halpin all scored. Gauffreau (sacrifice grounder) and Gorman (single) picked up
RBIs in the inning. That was the end of the scoring.
Gorman shut SAM down
in the final two innings while allowing only two baserunners and striking out
four. Kauffman loaded the bases with blue shirts in the fifth but pitched out of
the jam and the home team didn’t need their 6th at-bat to secure the 17-10
victory.
Big Blue will be back in action Thursday night against the
orange and blue of Plush Mills.
