AL Game 24
Coldwell
Banker Preferred 18
Plush Mills 5
Coldwell Banker used a whopping 18 hits to score a season-high 18 runs Thursday
night to defeat Plush Mills 18-5. Jack Gill (single, stole third and home), Sean
Gorman (single), Mike Phillips (walk), and Avi Patel (reached on FC), all scored
in the first to make it 4-0 Coldwell. Jason DiRita (single) and Joe Arizin
(double) picked up RBIs in the inning and Matt Halpin also notched a solid
single to left. Plush Mills used just one hit but took advantage of some spotty
defense to score 4 of their own in the bottom half. Jacey Fox (walk), Felix
Gusic (reached on error), Shaun Fernandes (walk), and Nicolas Fox (single) all
scored in the inning for Plush Mills. Cole Wood walked and stole second and
third but was caught stealing home when Phillips retrieved an errant fastball
and flipped it to Patel who made the tag.
Coldwell tacked on two more in
the second. Anders Kristiansen (walk), and Gill (reached on FC), scored in the
inning. Tristan McLean singled in the inning. Gorman recorded an RBI single as
well and Phillips had a sacrifice grounder to score Gill. DiRita came on to
pitch in the second for Coldwell and he struck out the side to keep the score at
6-4 Coldwell. Coldwell scored two more in the third. Patel and Arizin started
the inning off with singles. Shawn Welsh knocked in Patel with a single of his
own. Ryan Gauffreau used a sacrifice grounder to score Arizin and it was 8-4
Coldwell. In the bottom half, Jacey Fox used his wheels to hit an infield single
and then stole second, third, and home. But DiRita struck out the other three
batters he faced and Coldwell took an 8-5 lead into the 4th.
The hit
parade continued for Coldwell. McLean started things off with his second single
of the day. He was then thrown out at second on a Gill fielder's choice grounder
to shortstop. Gorman hit his third single of the day but was thrown out at
second on a Phillips fielder's choice. DiRita knocked in Gill with a single and
then Phillips scored on a Patel single. Arizin drove in DiRita and Patel with a
line-drive double to the left-centerfield gap and it was 12-5 Coldwell. DiRita
continued his brilliant pitching and retired all three batters he faced in the
fourth on just 8 pitches. Gusic grounded out to Phillips at short. Fernandes
grounded out to Gill at second. And Nick Fox popped out to Patel at first and
the side was retired. Kristiansen singled in the fifth for Coldwell but Big Blue
did not score in that frame. DiRita set Plush Mills down in order again in the
fifth. He fielded his position well throwing out Wood at first on a come-backer.
He then fought back from a 3-0 count to strike out Elizabeth Salazar looking.
Sam Ramsey popped out to Patel at first to end the inning.
Coldwell
wasn't finished scoring. Gorman (reached on error), Phillips (walk), DiRita
(single), Patel (3RBI triple), Welsh (FC), and Halpin (hit by pitch), all scored
in the inning. Arizin (4-4 on the day) had an RBI single in the inning and
Gauffreau knocked in two runs with a flare over the shortstop's head. Suddenly
the lead bulged to 18-5. Gorman came on to relieve DiRita. He was dominant using
just 11 pitches to strike out the side.
Coldwell will try to improve to
