AL Game 42
Coldwell
Banker Preferred 16
Sposato Homes 4
Coldwell Banker avenged two earlier losses to Sposato and came away with a 16-4
victory Wednesday night. Mike Phillips bunted the game’s first pitch back to the
mound and was able to beat the throw for an infield single. Jack Gill followed
it up with a flare down the left field line that dropped in for a single. After
a double steal on a passed ball, Sean Gorman picked up an RBI with a sacrifice
grounder to second that scored Phillips. The next two batters both popped out to
third and it was onto the bottom half. Will Cohen hit a double deep to right and
stole third and home and it was 1-1 after one.
Joe Arizin (walk) was the
only batter for either team to reach base in the second and Sean Gorman struck
out the side for Coldwell and it remained 1-1 after two. But the Realtors blew
the game open in the top of the third. Anders Kristiansen dropped a perfect bunt
down the third baseline for a single to start the inning. Phillips and Gill
followed with singles to load the bases for Gorman who hit a 2RBI double to
score Kristiansen and Phillips. Avi Patel followed with a 2RBI triple to
left-center. Jason DiRita continued the hit parade with an infield single that
scored Patel. DiRita stole second, third, and home and Joe Arizin (walk) did the
same and it was 8-1 Coldwell. But Sposato responded in the bottom half. Matt
Smith worked a walk as did Zach Lota. Will Cohen smoked another ball to right,
this time for a triple and when the throw to third sailed over the third
baseman’s head, Cohen came all the way around to score and it was 8-4 after
three.
Big Blue added some insurance runs in the 4th. Kristiansen led
off again, this time with a walk. Phillips singled again moving Kristiansen to
second. Kristiansen then stole third and home and Phillips moved over to third
on a steal. Gorman scored Phillips with an RBI single and Patel notched an
infield single. DiRita then drove in Gorman with a sacrifice grounder and Patel
stole home and it was 12-4 Coldwell. Patel, who had come on in relief to strike
out the only batter he faced in the third, was spectacular in the fourth. Cooper
Bittle rocketed a come-backer to the mound but Patel calmly stabbed it and
tossed it to Matt Halpin at first to throw out Bittle. Patel struck out the next
batter looking. Aidan Naugle singled and stole second and third. But on a passed
ball with Trent Graci at the plate, Naugle was caught trying to steal home when
Arizin retrieved the ball and flipped it to Patel who caught it and dropped his
glove in front of the plate as Naugle slid into it for the out to end the
inning.
Coldwell added four more in the top of the 5th. Ryan Gauffreau
walked and stole second. After Tristan McLean’s laser to shortstop was stabbed
by Naugle, Kristiansen followed with a line-drive single to right center.
Phillips drove in Gauffreau with a sacrifice grounder to first. Kristiansen
stole home for the second time in the game. Gill and Gorman worked walks and
Patel plated them both with a 2RBI double to left-center. Coldwell took a 16-4
lead into the bottom of the 5th. Patel was stellar on the mound again in the
bottom half. He handled another hot-shot comebacker and threw out Graci at
first. Patel then walked Ben Liebman but struck out the next two batters to end
the game as Coldwell recorded the 16-4 win. Coldwell will be back on the diamond
again tomorrow night as they take on Plush Mills for the fourth time this
season.
